Compress soft, bulky items to reduce package volume before international shipping. For qualifying products, less volume can mean lower shipping costs — but the biggest benefit is fitting more into a single shipment without paying for wasted air.
What it is
Vacuum packaging is a service where our warehouse uses professional vacuum-seal bags to compress soft goods before they’re packed for shipping. The process removes air from the packaging, dramatically reducing the volume the items take up in transit.
For products that can be safely compressed, this often means:
- A smaller shipping box — because the packed items take up less space.
- Potentially lower shipping cost — international shipping is often priced on volumetric weight (size), not just actual weight, so a smaller package can mean a smaller bill.
- More items fitting in the same shipment — useful if you’re consolidating multiple purchases.
What products benefit from vacuum packaging
Vacuum packaging works best for soft, compressible items that won’t be damaged by being pressed flat. Common examples:
- Pillows, cushions, and cushion covers
- Duvets, quilts, blankets, and bedding
- Coats, jackets, puffer vests, and outerwear
- Sweaters, hoodies, and knitwear
- Soft toys and plush items
- Towels and soft home textiles
- Reusable bags, packing cubes, and soft luggage inserts
Items that should not be vacuum-packed include electronics, breakables, structured goods (bags with rigid frames, shoes, hats that hold their shape), anything with foam that could deform, and items with liquids or aerosols. Our warehouse checks each item and confirms whether vacuum packaging is safe for your specific order.
Pricing
Pricing is based on the vacuum bag size the warehouse selects for your item. We use three standard sizes:
| Bag size | Price | Pricing basis |
|---|---|---|
| 50 cm × 70 cm | $1.99 | Per piece |
| 60 cm × 80 cm | $2.49 | Per piece |
| 80 cm × 100 cm | $2.99 | Per piece |
The warehouse picks the appropriate bag size for your product — you don’t need to choose. The charge is added to your Phase 2 invoice, together with international shipping.
Will vacuum packaging save me money on shipping?
Often, but not always — and we don’t want to promise savings we can’t guarantee.
International shipping is priced on the greater of a package’s actual weight or its volumetric weight (a size-based calculation). If your item is light but bulky — pillows, quilts, a puffer jacket — the volumetric weight is usually higher, and reducing volume through vacuum packaging can meaningfully cut the shipping bill.
If your item is dense and small — a heavy toolset, a stack of books — the actual weight is what you’re billed for, and vacuum packaging won’t help. In those cases the fee just adds cost without a benefit.
For orders where it makes sense, the packaging fee is typically much less than the shipping saved. But the exact impact depends on the destination, carrier, and how the shipment is rated — so we don’t advertise a fixed saving.
How to request it
Request vacuum packaging during your Phase 1 checkout confirmation, right after you place your order. This is the only stage add-on services can be added.
On the confirmation screen, tap Request vacuum packaging. You don’t need to specify a bag size or anything else — our warehouse selects the appropriate bag when your item arrives.
Why the decision has to happen now
Once your item arrives at our warehouse, it moves straight into packing. Add-ons can’t be added at that stage without disrupting the flow, so we ask you to decide during Phase 1 confirmation. If you’re not sure whether vacuum packaging is suitable for your item, request it anyway — our warehouse checks each product before applying, and only bills the fee if it’s actually applied.
What happens after you request vacuum packaging
- We flag your order for vacuum packaging. The warehouse is notified at the time of your request.
- Your item arrives at our warehouse and gets its standard visual check.
- The warehouse confirms the item is suitable for vacuum packaging (soft, compressible, safe under pressure) and selects the appropriate bag size.
- Your item is vacuum-packed and packaged for international shipping. If the item isn’t suitable, we skip the vacuum step and let you know at the “Packed & Ready” stage — no charge applies.
- Phase 2 invoice. Your invoice includes international shipping and, if vacuum packaging was applied, the $1.99, $2.49, or $2.99 fee for the bag size used. Shipment proceeds once paid.
Common questions
What does vacuum packaging do?
It compresses suitable products to reduce package volume before international shipping. For soft, bulky items, this can meaningfully reduce shipping cost and lets you fit more into a single shipment.
Will vacuum packaging always reduce my shipping cost?
Not necessarily. It reduces package volume, which may lower the shipping cost depending on how the shipment is rated and the shipping method used. For light, bulky items it usually helps. For small, dense items it usually doesn’t.
How much does vacuum packaging cost?
Vacuum packaging starts at $1.99 per piece. Current prices are $1.99, $2.49, or $2.99 per piece depending on the vacuum bag size used. Our warehouse selects the bag size — you don’t need to.
Can I choose the bag size?
The warehouse determines the appropriate bag size for the products in the order. This ensures the right compression without damaging the item.
How do I request vacuum packaging?
Request it during your Phase 1 checkout confirmation, right after you place your order. The applicable charge will be included on your Phase 2 invoice — only if vacuum packaging is applied.
What if my item isn’t suitable for vacuum packaging?
Our warehouse checks each item before applying vacuum packaging. If it’s not suitable (fragile, structured, electronics, etc.), we skip the vacuum step, let you know at the Packed & Ready stage, and no charge applies. You only pay if it’s actually applied to your order.
